J. SIBELIUS · Violin Concerto, D minor, op. 47
G. MAHLER · Symphony No. 1, D major, The Titan

Two works that were revised by the composer after their premiere and only became popular afterwards are on the program this evening. The violin concerto by Jean Sibelius, whose strikingly virtuoso final movement is one of the most well-known in violin literature, still exerts a strong fascination on both musicians and listeners to this day. And Mahler's first, which he temporarily gave the nickname "The Titan", was even premiered as a symphonic poem and only when it was printed as a four-movement symphony.
