ABO-PLUS family concert · CARNIVAL OF ANIMALS
The lion invites you to a big party

Welcome to the Carnival of the Animals, the festival of life! When musicians and animals meet, no stone is left unturned! Whether lions or chickens, donkeys or turtles, everyone has appeared; even fossils stand up again. Sing, dance and join us in guessing!

Composer Camille Saint-Saëns delights the whole family with this hit of classical music. And he didn't even want to see the scores published during his lifetime! In 1886 he wrote the suite down for fun, incidentally in a small village in Austria. Saint-Saëns feared for his reputation as a “serious” composer, so the Carnival of the Animals did not appear until 1922. Little did he know that this work would bring him more world fame than any other.
Since then, generations of children and adults have been falling apart over Saint-Saëns' original way of musicalizing animal calls. He has also hidden all sorts of ironic Easter Eggs for classic freaks: for example, he quotes Berlioz in theElephant and Rossini in the Fossils.

The Philharmonie Salzburg gets company for the celebration: dancer and acrobat Jasmin Rituper dances to the music of the swan, actress and singer Eva Hinterreithner leads through the music with chief conductor Elisabeth Fuchs and the pianists Emese Badi and Minka Popovic play the solo parts on the piano.
