Phil Enjoyment at the Concerto Grosso

F. POULENC · Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani in G minor, FP 93
JS BACH · Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, BWV 1048
A. VIVALDI · Gloria D major, RV 589

To compose an orchestral concert for organ and timpani as solo instruments in the 20th century is extraordinary. The performance of Francis Poulenc's Organ Concerto with its impressive sound effects is therefore a special event. Poulenc composed the work in 1938 as a homage to Johann Sebastian Bach - it was customary in the Baroque to write solo concertos for organ. The soloist is Hannfried Lucke.

One of the great masterpieces of the baroque, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, can be experienced afterwards. The virtuoso concert stands out due to unusual instrumentation, 3 violins, 3 violas, 3 cellos with basso continuo. A bravura piece of instrumental music.

Gloria, Antonio Vivaldi's best-known sacred vocal work, was written for the Ospedale della Pietà, a girls' conservatory for orphans in Venice. In addition to the soloists Gerhild Zeilner (soprano), Clara Tinsobin (soprano) and Tamara Obermayr (alto), the school choir of the Musisches Gymnasium Salzburg, the church choir Oberalm and KowiCanto from Koppl can be experienced in the parish church.
