How does it sound when Mice and Pirates Astor Piazzolla, Camille Saint-Saëns and W.A. Play Mozart? If they have rehearsed as diligently as the committed young talents of the Salzburg Children's & Youth Philharmonic, really good!

There was a colorful and funny carnival concert last Thursday in the parish church of St. Paul. The committed young talents of the Children's & Youth Philharmonic had rehearsed intensively for three weeks for the carnival concert (one of the Children's & Youth Philharmonic's three annual concert projects).

Under the direction of conductor Elisabeth Fuchs and with the professional support of seven professional musicians (“lecturers”), around eighty children and young people between the ages of seven and 18 performed a musical foray into classical, rock and pop . Excerpts from “Carnival of the Animals” (C. Saint-Saëns), “Under Thunder and Lightning” (J. Strauss), but also “Rock me Amadeus” (Falco) and “Pink Panther” (H. Mancini) were played ).

The young orchestra received a lot of applause for such musical achievements. In particular, ten-year-old Niklas Mischkulnig, whose declared role model is David Garrett, impressed the approximately 300 listeners with a remarkable solo part of Vittorio Monti's “Czardas” on the violin. “Of course you have to practice regularly, ideally every day, so that the orchestra as a whole can play very well,” says the initiator of the project Elisabeth Fuchs, “but the most important thing is to have fun making music together!”

The Children's & Youth Philharmonic's next concert project will take place in early summer: On June 28th there will be another big summer concert in the Salzburgarena, this time together with the Salzburg Philharmonic Choir.

General information about the CHILDREN'S & YOUTH PHILHARMONIE SALZBURG

The Salzburg Children's & Youth Philharmonic, founded in 2022, is aimed at music-loving children and young people between the ages of seven and 18 who would like to gain their first orchestral experience and are already receiving instrumental lessons (privately or at music education institutions such as the Mozarteum or Musikum).

The focus is on having fun making music together and getting to know regular, professional rehearsals. The program is diverse: a colorful mix of classical, rock and pop. Pedagogically experienced professional musicians support the young talents during preliminary rehearsals in smaller groups as well as during large orchestral rehearsals and concerts under the direction of Elisabeth Fuchs.

The Children's & Youth Philharmonic currently receives no funding from public funds and is financed exclusively through donations, sponsors, entrance fees and contributions to expenses from contributors.

Three orchestral projects take place per concert season (September to June):
September: Orchestra week in the last week of the holidays at the beginning of September in the city of Salzburg, Mon-Fri, all day from 09:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m., with a final concert on Friday at 17:00 p.m.
January/February: Carnival concert in the city of Salzburg, with rehearsals well spaced out over 3 to 5 weeks before the concert.
May/June: big summer concert in the Salzburgarena at the exhibition center, with rehearsals well spaced out over 3 to 5 weeks before the concert.
