Brahms and Dvořák up close
Works by two lifelong friends

Due to unplanned prolonged construction work, the Bauakademie/ Lehrbauhof Salzburg will not be available for events in May and June. Despite intensive efforts, no suitable alternative date could be found, so the concerts on May 15, 2025 will unfortunately be canceled without replacement.
Tickets already purchased will of course be refunded via the payment method used at the time of purchase.

We very much regret this cancellation and ask for your understanding,
Your team of the Philharmonie Salzburg

There is a secret alliance of kindred spirits at all times. Close the circle more firmly, you who belong together, so that the truth of art may shine ever more clearly, spreading joy and blessing everywhere.
- Robert Schumann

A. DVOŘÁK - Concerto for violoncello and orchestra, B minor, op. 104, 1st movement
C. SAINT-SAËNS - "The Swan" from "Carnival of the Animals"
J. BRAHMS - Symphony No. 1, C minor, op. 68

The Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and his German colleague Johannes Brahms, who was eight years his senior, formed a lifelong alliance during his lifetime. As a kindred spirit, friend and patron, Brahms stood up for Dvořák and his compositions. "I want to jump out of my skin with envy at what the man comes up with so casually," said Brahms. In honor of this friendship, the Philharmonie Salzburg and soloist Sofía Torres Durán will perform Brahms' First Symphony and the first movement of Dvořák's Cello Concerto. Saint-Saëns' The Swan rounds off the program at the end.
