Family Concert · From the New World
The Girl Marie & Dvořák's 9th Symphony
Explore. Dream. Discover.
– Mark Twain
Antonín Dvořák composed his symphony From the New World while living in America. It features sounds of new impressions, big cities, and vast landscapes. The Children's Festival brings Dvořák's masterpiece to the stage together with the Salzburg Philharmonic and a team of actors. We accompany Marie, who moves from Salzburg to New York and struggles to find her way in the hustle and bustle of the big city—until she meets taxi driver Tony! He introduces her to the "New World" of America. On their little journey full of unfamiliar impressions, the two finally arrive (despite detours, traffic jams, and surprising discoveries) at the Statue of Liberty, the shining symbol of America and the New World. At this family concert, the young audience experiences its own little journey, filled with music, sounds, and images that come to life on stage.
