Mendelssohn's "Scottish" and Brahms' Violin Concerto
Rising star Leonhard Baumgartner plays Brahms
J. BRAHMS · Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77
F. MENDELSSOHN BARTHOLDY · Symphony No. 3, Op. 56, The Scottish
Twelve years of inspiration, a violin concerto full of fire, and a symphony that awakens wanderlust: raise the curtain for a concert in which brilliant melodies written by two Romantics captivate the audience. The program opens with Johannes Brahms' only violin concerto, a masterpiece full of intense expressiveness and virtuosity, which ranks among the "Big Five" of violin literature and is interpreted by rising star Leonhard Baumgartner. This is followed by Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, the beginning of which he composed at the age of twenty on a trip to Scotland. Twelve years later, the Scottish Symphony was completed – a work that reflects wild landscapes, harsh climates, and the characteristic sound of bagpipes.
