The Lark Ascending - the lark ascends!
Musical Spring Greetings with Vivaldi, Debussy and Williams

A.VIVALDI · Spring from Le Quattro Stagioni
RV WILLIAMS · The Lark Ascending for solo violin and chamber orchestra
C.DEBUSSY · Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune for chamber orchestra
A.VIVALDI · Summer from Le Quattro Stagioni

The Lark Ascending is a poem by George Meredith and inspired the English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams to write a work for solo violin and chamber orchestra. It leads through the air in a painterly soundscape and lets the songs of the lark ring out. The solo violin here takes on the voice of the bird, similar to Vivaldi's famous Spring, which opens the concerto.
In Debussy's symphonic poem La Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune – prelude to a faun's afternoon – we immerse ourselves in the impressionistic world of sound. At the end of the concert, Vivaldi's brilliant summer from his famous Four Seasons sounds.
