Peer Gynt's Morning Mood & Resurrection
Musical resurrection and redemption

Penderecki's resurrection and Grieg's morning mood go together wonderfully and together they are like balm for the soul, like reconciliation.

K. PENDERECKI · Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, Resurrection
E. GRIEG Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, op.46
E. GRIEG Peer Gynt Suite No. 2, op.55

Penderecki's piano concerto Resurrection refers to the Christian promise of the resurrection of the dead. Ibsen's dramatic poem Peer Gynt also deals with central themes of Christianity: salvation and forgiveness. It tells the story of the good-for-nothing Peer Gynt, who wanders the world in search of fame and fortune. Only in Solveig's unconditional love does he finally find redemption. In Grieg's Peer Gynt Suites, a kind of best of his incidental music, of course, the well-known theme of the morning mood should not be missing.
