"Teaching music to young people is a matter close to my heart." (Elisabeth Fuchs)

The children's festival was founded 2007 by chief conductor Elisabeth Fuchs. The focus from the beginning was on the conviction that children should be able to access classical music as early as possible, suitable for their age.

  • With the workshop concerts during the children's festival week in the city of Salzburg, we reach 7.000 children of all social classes every year, in Zell am See via 3000 children. They come with their school class or kindergarten group.
  • The concert cycles for families with six productions per season are extremely popular and last season attracted over 25.000 visitors in the city of Salzburg alone. The Children's Festival is now the largest concert organizer for children, young people and families in Salzburg.

"In addition to the adult concerts, I found it particularly challenging and important for schoolchildren and kindergarten children to give concerts and moderate them in an age-appropriate manner. The children's festival has become a fixed date in the calendars of families in Salzburg, Mühldorf and Traunreut. Since last year we have also been taking our programs to Zell am See in the Salzburg region, as well as to Linz and Vienna. For me, this is a great confirmation of our work and proof that our investment in musical education is worthwhile.” (Elisabeth Fuchs on the children's festival)

Our recipe for success

The Salzburg Children's Festival takes children into the exciting world of classical music.
The concert stories enchant by age-specific frameworks, carefully selected performers, a symphony orchestra on stage, rousing frame-work and interactive elements that engage the audience in the action. Every season features a ballet production with dancers, an opera production with singers, a portrait of a composer, a Christmas concert and key works in the history of music.

Family concerts last 60 minutes each and are suitable for children between 3 and 10 years. Each concert tells a story portrayed by 1-2 actors. In addition, 2-4 singers have an influence on operas, and 1-2 dancers on ballet productions. All works are played in original line-up, so there is always a complete symphony orchestra on stage.

We bring classic to life

The children's festival is a cooperation with the Philharmonie Salzburg. Together, we now play about 70 Education concerts (á 500 visitors) per year, hold 320 workshops (á 25 children) and distribute 20.000 free CDs to young visitors to the workshop concerts in the Children's Festival week each year. Many children tell us how much they enjoy listening to music with their siblings and friends at home.
