Brahms' First & Dvořák's Cello Concerto
The star cellist Camille Thomas in the Great Hall
A. DVOŘÁK - Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra, B minor, op. 104
J. BRAHMS - Symphony No. 1, C minor, op. 68
With Camille Thomas, the Philharmonie Salzburg and Elisabeth Fuchs bring a young star cellist to the stage. The Franco-Belgian artist will play Dvořák's Cello Concerto, which the Czech composer wrote for "a piece of wood that shrieks at the top and hums at the bottom". Despite his skepticism towards the cello, Dvořák created one of the most famous and most frequently performed concertos for this very instrument. In the second part of the evening, the Philharmonie Salzburg will play the first symphony by Dvořák's lifelong friend and mentor Johannes Brahms.
