Children & Youth Philharmonic Salzburg
The Salzburg Children's & Youth Philharmonic is an orchestra founded by the Salzburg Philharmonic, the Children's Festival and conductor Elisabeth Fuchs in 2022. It is aimed at music-loving children and young people between the ages of seven and 18 who would like to gain their first orchestral experience and are already taking instrumental lessons at the Mozarteum University, at the Salzburg Musikum, at other music education institutions or privately.
Fun and joy in making music together and getting to know professional rehearsal work are the focus of this project orchestra. The program is varied and a mix of classic, rock and pop.
Three orchestra projects take place in each concert season:
- orchestra week in September (in the last week of vacation at the beginning of September in the city of Salzburg, all day Mon-Fri, 09:00 a.m. - 17:00 p.m. with final concert on Friday at 17:00 p.m.)
- Christmas or carnival concert in January/February: concert in the city of Salzburg (with rehearsals spread over three to five weeks before the concert)
- summer concert in May/June: summer concert in the Salzburgarena at the exhibition center, together with well-known soloists (with rehearsals that take place three to five weeks before the concert)
Lecturers, mostly musicians from the Salzburg Philharmonic, support the children and young people in all instrument groups during pre-rehearsal in smaller music groups as well as in the large orchestra tutti rehearsals and concerts under the direction of Elisabeth Fuchs.
The Children's & Youth Philharmonic Salzburg is currently financed purely through donations, sponsors, entrance fees and the contribution towards expenses from participants. There are still no subsidies or sponsors for the Children's & Youth Philharmonic Salzburg. (Hopefully that will change soon!)
