A. DVOŘÁK · Concerto for cello and orchestra, B minor, op. 104
J. BRAHMS · Symphony No. 1, C minor, op. 68

With Camille Thomas, the Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Elisabeth Fuchs are bringing a young star cellist onto the stage. The Franco-Belgian artist plays Dvořák's Cello Concerto, which the Czech composer wrote for “a piece of wood that screams above and hums below.” Despite his skepticism towards the cello, Dvořák created one of the most famous and frequently performed concertos for this instrument. In the second part of the evening, the Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra will play the first symphony by Dvořák's lifelong friend and mentor Johannes Brahms.
