The symphonic poem Scheherazade by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is based on the oriental tale One Thousand and One Nights. Scheherazade is a beautiful and clever young woman who manages to appease the evil King Shahrahyâr by telling him a story every night. The colorful instrumentation is typical of Rimsky-Korsakov's music.
