50 years of Elisabeth Fuchs: vision, courage, and passion (press release dated February 10, 2026)
Salzburg has Mozart, the festival—and Elisabeth Fuchs. To mark her milestone birthday, which coincidentally falls on International Women's Day on March 8, we invite you to press conferences and interviews.
Elisabeth Fuchs 50. A fitting occasion to profile an inspiring personality who has long since established herself as a renowned conductor.
"Then I'll just start my own orchestra..." said the then 22-year-old, and she put this idea into practice without batting an eyelid. Anyone who studies music needs an instrument. No flutist without a flute, no singer without a voice—and no conductor without an orchestra.
Much time has passed since then, and what was once the "Junge Philharmonie Salzburg" has grown into the adult Philharmonie—an established orchestra that plays a significant role in shaping Salzburg's cultural landscape and inspires audiences with concert projects ranging from classical symphony concerts to crossover shows. The orchestra performs up to 100 concerts a year under the baton of its dynamic principal conductor. The Philharmonic also offers a wide range of innovative children's and family formats, because for Elisabeth Fuchs , music education Fuchs the foundation on which lasting musical experiences grow. "With our family concerts, our children's festival week, concert projects by the Children's & Youth Philharmonic, the cross-genre youth competitionZeig dein Talent (Show Your Talent), andour recorder project, we open up access to music from an early age," says the conductor.
In addition to her role as music educator and principal conductor, Elisabeth Fuchs serves as artistic director and is responsible for the office team behind the scenes. In 2018, she founded the Salzburg Philharmonic Choir and was appointed principal conductor of the Burgenland State Orchestra in 2023.
Elisabeth Fuchs a passionate musician, visionary, and designer. At 50, she is not looking back, but forward—and has no intention of slowing down.
