BEETHOVEN'S NINTH at the Großes Festspielhaus
All people become brothers and sisters
I. STRAWINSKY - "The Firebird", orchestral suite (1919)
L. v. BEETHOVEN - Symphony No. 9, op. 125
Two works of tremendous power and intensity are performed when Stravinsky's magnificent ballet suite The Firebird and Beethoven's world-famous 9th Symphony are heard. Unusual sound effects and a colorful orchestration can be heard in the suite from 1919; the master of ballet music composed the shimmering sound effects that underline the bird character in a particularly striking way. Stravinsky celebrated his first worldwide success with The Firebird.
In the second half of the concert, Beethoven's Ninth unfolds a monumental soundscape in four breathtaking movements, which conveys a vision of brotherhood and sisterhood in the finale with its vocal cantata based on Schiller's Ode to Joy.
An unforgettable and still highly topical work in which the orchestra, soloists and choir unite to spread a humanitarian message.
