The Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and his German colleague Johannes Brahms, who was eight years his senior, formed a lifelong alliance during his lifetime. As a kindred spirit, friend and patron, Brahms stood up for Dvořák and his compositions. "I want to jump out of my skin with envy at what the man comes up with so casually," said Brahms. In honor of this friendship, the Philharmonie Salzburg and soloist Sofía Torres Durán will perform Brahms' First Symphony and the first movement of Dvořák's Cello Concerto. Saint-Saëns' The Swan rounds off the program at the end.
